Understanding Trailer Types

Load Rite offers both bunk and roller boat trailer models. Choosing the right trailer will depend on a number of factors.

Generally, bunk trailers are preferred and offer the greatest hull support. If your local boat ramp experiences dramatic low tides, a roller trailer may be a great fit.

The easiest way to decide is to give us a call or contact us by clicking here. We would love to help you decide which type of boat trailer fits your needs.

Galvanized vs aluminum

Aluminum trailers offer greater protection from rust and are lighter, however they are more expensive. We suggest an aluminum trailer unless you will be boating primarily in freshwater or have access to a freshwater ramp.

If you are on the fence deciding between the two, give us a call or contact us here for a boat trailer material consultation.

Single, Tandem, Tri-axel

Deciding on trailer size depends on your boat’s weight and length. If your vessel is right in between weight classes for a tandem vs tri-axel trailer, it is generally a good idea to go with the higher carrying capacity for safety.

The best way to choose is to simply give us a call or contact us via email for a trailer fitting. We would be happy to discuss options and the pro’s and con’s of each trailer size with you!

Calculating Carry Capacity

The gross total weight of your vessel is key to choosing the size and type of trailer needed to fit your boat. The easiest way to calculate the weight of your vessel is to follow the follow equation:

Boat Weight + Engine Weight + Fuel Weight + Water Weight + Personal Gear

The total weight should be used to determine exactly which trailer capacity you need to safely tow your vessel. Try using this calculator to help determine your boats total weight.
